How Hope Farms Mercantile Came to Be
Hope Farms Mercantile is a family-run farm built on faith, heritage, and generations of hands-on experience, carrying forward the traditions we were raised with.
Hope Farms Mercantile grew from a lifetime of simple beginnings. Angela and James Miller met in 1989 on an arranged blind date set up by people who “just knew” they’d be a good match. Turns out they were right. The two married in 1990, and before long their home was full of activity — first one daughter in 1992, then another in 1994.
Their girls grew up the way many country kids do: outside more than inside, hands dirty more often than clean. They raised goats, cared for guinea pigs, raised baby rabbits for 4-H, and always seemed to have a dog or barn cat underfoot. As the girls got older, they spent several years training and showing horses, working with everything from green foals to seasoned show horses. Homeschooling allowed the freedom to be at the barn at dawn, travel for horse shows, and learn responsibility in real, tangible ways.
In 2020, they finally found the land that would become Hope Farms — the place they had talked about, prayed for, and quietly planned toward for years. Today, it’s their way of honoring the generations before them while building something meaningful for the generations to come.

The Story Behind Hope Farms Mercantile
Both sides of the family brought traditions worth hanging onto. Angela grew up with gardens big enough to feed a family year-round, shelves full of home-canned fruits and vegetables, quilts passed down through generations, and skills taught by her great-grandmother, Mary-Bell. Her parents (Shirley and Lewis) continued the legacy, teaching her the importance of resourcefulness and doing things with care. James learned the value of hard work young, spending part of his youth working on a dairy farm and a tomato farm — the kind of work that shapes a person for life. He also spent his early married years single handledly supporting the family with greasy hands as an auto mechanic and in the trucking industry.

Caring for People the Way We Care for Our Farm
We don’t believe in rushing people through or treating anyone like a number. Whether someone comes for eggs, bread, crafts, or simply to visit, we try to treat them like a neighbor. We answer questions, share what we know, and take the time to help people find what they’re looking for. Everything we do is hands-on, small-batch, and personal.

A Life Built on Heritage, Faith & Hard Work
Our journey here hasn’t been fast or fancy — it’s been steady, intentional, and full of lessons along the way. Hope Farms is the result of years spent learning skills that many families once took for granted: raising animals, preserving food, sewing, gardening, and doing things by hand.
As our daughters grew, we spent countless days together working on the land, fixing fences, hauling feed, and sharpening the kind of practical skills you don’t find in textbooks. Every season taught something different: planting, growing, harvesting, preparing, and starting again.
Hope Farms represents the life we always hoped to build — one based on faith, family, honesty, and using the gifts God gave us to provide something good for others.

Treating Every Customer Like Thy Neighbor
Our goal is simple: treat people well. Whether someone is picking up a dozen eggs, ordering a handmade quilt, or asking about goats, we want them to feel welcome and appreciated. We stand behind what we make and raise, and we believe good service matters — especially in a world that often forgets the little things.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”
– Proverbs 16:3
Our Mission
Our mission is to keep alive the values we were raised with: faith, integrity, and honest work. We aim to grow and create things with care — the same way our family has always done — and share them with our community in a way that reflects the heritage we came from.
Our Values
We believe in stewardship, kindness, and doing things with intention. We value quality, respect for the land and animals, and treating people the way family should be treated. Every quilt stitched, egg gathered, loaf baked, or animal cared for is handled with those values at heart.
Continuing the Legacy
Every step forward — whether it’s a new animal, a new handmade project, or a new garden bed — is part of building a future we hope our children and grandchildren will be proud of.
We continue to grow each season, building Hope Farms on the traditions of our family while staying grounded in faith, gratitude, and purposeful work.
We’re still learning and growing every season. Hope Farms is built on the traditions of the generations before us, but it also reflects the goals and dreams of our own family. As our farm expands, we keep the same foundation: faith, gratitude, and a commitment to doing things with purpose.

Growing Together, One Season at a Time
We believe in trying new things, setting new goals, and learning from every season. Hope Farms is a reminder that growth happens one step at a time. If our story inspires someone else to plant a garden, raise an animal, or return to simpler traditions, then we’re thankful to be part of that encouragement.
